Up for auction is a very rare hand-made wooden training model of the WW2 M4 Sherman Tank
that was used in battle simulations on a sand table designed to help tank commanders in future battle planning and military wargaming.
This vintage tank model was recently discovered in an old house estate of an Israeli Army tank commander.
The use of sand tables and miniature tank models by the Israeli Armor Battalions for teaching military cadets was common in the 1950's-1970's and fell out of favor with improved maps, aerial and satellite photography, and later, with digital terrain simulations.
The M4 Sherman Tank was used in the Israeli army from 1948 to 1980.
The tank model is crude in its design, the turret section can rotate and be dismantled. It's barrel is made from a solid metal wire.
It has Hebrew hand markings on the bottom:
